ABOUT
THE DISTRICT:
The Marin Healthcare District (MHCD) is a special district of the
State of California, created by the Marin County Board
of Supervisors in the 1940's, to
oversee the development and operation of a public
hospital in Marin County. The District, which includes the majority
of the communities in Marin County (excepting Novato and portions of West Marin),
successfully operated Marin General Hospital until 1985,
when the facility was leased to Marin General Hospital Corporation,
a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization -which is now an affiliate
of Sutter Health. In 2006, the District and Sutter Health negotiated an agreement whereby Marin General Hospital Corporation would no longer be leased to Sutter Health and the District would once again assume accountability for the operations of the Marin General Hospital Corporation The transfer date has not been set, but will occur between January 1, 2009 and July 1, 2010.
